The accolades keep coming for Anna Watkins. The Fairburn native and Creekside High product was named this week as a NJCAA Division III Second Team All-American.
The sophomore forward led West Georgia Technical College this year, averaging 17.5 points and 5.5 rebounds per game. Watkins was proficient at getting to the foul line. She made 122 of 163 free throws, a 75 percent clip. The next highest total on the team was Jordan Davis, who made 48 of 88.
Coach Alford Williams' squad finished just 9-18, playing primarily NJCAA Division I opponents. However, the tougher competition prepared WGTC for the postseason. The Golden Knights claimed the NJCAA District G Championship en route to a sixth-place finish in the National Tournament last month.
Earlier this year, Watkins was named as the Georgia Collegiate Athletic Association Division III Basketball "Player of the Year," and Williams was named "Coach of the Year."
Watkins is the second WGTC All-American in as many years. Jacky Jones was named as a Second Team All-American on last year's National fourth-place team.
