Carrollton, GA – West Georgia Tech softball hosted the Bobcats from East Georgia in the final home doubleheader of the season here Saturday. In the opener, fans were treated to an old-fashioned pitcher's duel. Hannah Hennessey, playing in her final home game, put in one of her best performances of the season, allowing just 4 hits, 1 run and no walks. Unfortunately, the Golden Knights were unable to score a run and fell 1-0. East Georgia (24-13, 13-11) opened quickly in the nightcap, pulling away for a 12-0 win.
The doubleheader topped off a busy weekend for WGTC. On Friday, the Knights battled GCAA 2nd place South Georgia (27-13, 18-6). WGTC battled but fell short with 12-4 and 6-1 losses.
The weekend marked the final home games for eight sophomores who were recognized before Saturday's doubleheader. The Knights say farewell to Jayde Bradley, Bremen (Mt. Zion High); Chancey Davis, Ellijay (Gilmer Co. High); Kailen Greer, Summerville (Chattooga High); Kendall Hardy, Powder Springs (Hiram High); Hannah Hennessy, Villa Rica (Villa Rica High); Kayelyn Lewis and Ashlyn Lewis, both from Grayson (Grayson High); and Lindsey Touchstone, Rome (Rome High).
WGTC (6-30, 1-23) will close the 2018 campaign next Saturday at Georgia Highlands. The doubleheader is scheduled to begin at 4 pm.
