Carrollton, GA - Coach Monica Mills' squad has struggled to score runs this year, but they continue to battle each game. This weekend was no different as they dropped a pair of home doubleheaders against GCAA competition.
Andrew College came to town on Friday. In the opener, the Golden Knights had several scoring opportunities, but simply could not string together enough hits in a 4-0 loss. After falling behind 3-0 after the 1st inning, WGTC could have given up. However, the Knights battled back and knotted the contest 3-3 in the bottom of the 6th. Andrew scratched out a run in the 7th and held on to win, 4-3.
On Saturday, Abraham Baldwin traveled to Carrollton. The visitors jumped ahead 4-0 after 2 innings and added to that margin late to win the opener 8-0. Game 2 found the Knights in another tight one. ABAC scored a run in the 1st and WGTC evened the score in the 2nd. The game remained that way until the top of the 7th when Fillies were able to score the go-ahead run. The Knights stranded the potential tying run in scoring position and fell 2-1.
The Knights (6-28, 1-21) return to action next weekend when they host East Georgia for a doubleheader Saturday at 4 pm followed by a Sunday twin bill at 1 pm.
