West Georgia Tech sophomore standout Joe Boyer was recognized this week as a NJCAA Division III Basketball Honorable Mention All-American. Boyer, a 6-4 guard who prepped locally at New Manchester High School in Douglasville, led the GCAA with 17.3 points per game and he averaged just under 7 rebounds. He was also recognized as the GCAA Player of the Year in both his freshman and sophomore years.
"It's really just satisfying to see kids who do everything right get the accolades they deserve. He took no days off and came with a great attitude every day," stated Knights' coach Niki Okolovitch. "Whoever gets him next is getting a real steal, he'll be sorely missed, but I'm excited to see where his journey leads. He has some offers on the table, but more schools are showing interest in him, so he's still considering the best situation for him."
Boyer is the second Knight to be named an All-American in the program's history. Demontray McCormick was recognized following the 2011-12 campaign. WGTC (9-13, 3-2) tied for the GCAA regular season championship.
