The West Georgia Tech Men and Women's basketball teams are both off and running on the 2017-18 campaign.
Last Wednesday, the Golden Knight women dropped a 78-51 road decision to Division I Southern Union 78-51. In Saturday's home opener, Coach Alford Williams' squad bounced back holding off the junior varsity squad from Brenau University 46-42 to pick-up the first win of the season. On Monday, the ladies traveled to Division I Atlanta Metropolitan. The Lady Trailblazers broke open a tight contest and pulled away for a 78-53 victory.
After a week of play, the Golden Knight women find themselves 1-2. They return to action Saturday on the road at Enterprise State. The next home contest is set for next Monday, November 13 when they face Albany Tech. Tip is scheduled for 5:30 at Oak Mountain Academy.
Coach Niki Okolovitch's team could easily be 3-0 but instead are 1-2 after the first week of action. The season tipped last Wednesday on the road against the JV of Reinhardt College. Despite leading much of the game, the Golden Knights let it slip away late, losing 94-89. On Saturday's home-opener, they rebounded against BC Howren coming from behind to win 95-92. On Monday, Middle Georgia Prep came to Carrollton and broke open a tight contest late to win 86-72.
Not surprisingly, sophomore swingman Joe Boyer (Douglasville – New Manchester) has led the Golden Knights. He was named the GCAA Division III Player of the Week averaging 25.5 points and 6 rebounds.
The men will be home on Wednesday at 7:00 when they host the Georgia Highlands Diamonds before hitting the road Saturday against Division I Georgia Northwestern Tech.
