WGTC Drops Series to Gordon

Carrollton, GA – The Golden Knights hopes for a berth in the post-season took a major blow after being swept this week against Gordon.

In the series opener at Barnesville on Tuesday, WGTC fell behind early and could not respond en route to a 6-1 loss.  The series shifted to Carrollton on Thursday and the Highlanders started quickly with 5 runs in the 1st and 2 in the 3rd.  The Knights responded and trailed just 7-4 after 3 innings of play.  Gordon put the game away with 5 unanswered runs to take a 12-4 victory.

In Saturday's doubleheader, WGTC was looking to even the series.  In Game 1, the teams were tied 1-1 through 5 innings.  Gordon (25-18, 11-8) was able to score 2 in the 6th and, despite just 4 hits in the game, won 3-1.  In the nightcap, WGTC built a 5-3 lead through the 5th, only to fall 8-5.

The Knights (16-28, 5-15) will try to bounce back when they host East Georgia on Tuesday at 3 pm.  The series will then shift to Swainsboro with a single game Friday at 3 pm and a doubleheader Saturday scheduled for 1 pm.
