Carrollton, GA – Coming off the wrong end of a series sweep last week with Abraham Baldwin, the Golden Knights were looking to get back on track last night when Andrew College came to town. However, the Fighting Tigers had other plans, scoring two runs in the ninth to pick-up a 4-2 win.
The game started well for West Georgia Tech. Paul Roth led off with a walk and advanced to third base following singles by Adam Pedraza and Tony Matos. Roth scored when Reagan Thomas grounded into a double play. Pedraza scored on an error and the Golden Knights held an early 2-0 lead.
Andrew got single runs in the second and fifth innings, to knot the game at 2-2. It stayed that way until the fateful ninth. The Fighting Tigers (21-18, 6-3) plated two runs in the ninth, one with a bases-loaded walk, and another on a single.
The loss overshadowed an outstanding pitching effort by Mile Dutton. The sophomore scattered nine hits over eight innings, two runs (one earned) and five strikeouts.
WGTC (13-22, 2-11) will look to snap the skid this Friday as the series shifts to Cuthbert with a single game at 6 p.m. Saturday's doubleheader will begin at 1 p.m.
