Carrollton, GA – As has been the case for much of the season, the Knights battled until the end, but third-ranked and GCAA-leading Gordon had just a little too much as they downed WGTC 10-6 here Thursday. The Highlanders built an early lead and pushed it to 10-3 after the visitor half of the 8th. The Knights (20-26, 11-18) scored 3 runs in the bottom of the 8th and had the bases-loaded with the potential tying run at the plate before a double-play killed the rally. Gordon improved to 46-7, 25-4 in GCAA play.
The WGTC loss, coupled with South Georgia's 6-3 win in 10 innings last night at Andrew, eliminated both Andrew and WGTC. South Georgia improved to 12-17 in GCAA play while both WGTC and Andrew fell to 11-18. Even though all 3 teams have a game to play on Saturday and could still tie for 4th, South Georgia has the tiebreaker against both Andrew and the Knights by virtue of winning the season series against both. South Georgia finished 3-2 against WGTC and 4-1 against Andrew. As a result, regardless of what happens Saturday, South Georgia will be the #4 seed in the upcoming GCAA Tournament, joining #1 Gordon, #2 East Georgia, and #3 Georgia Highlands.
The final game of the season, as well as the program, will be on the road at Swainsboro when the Knights battle East Georgia. First pitch is set for 3 pm.
