The Knights' Round Table (4-8-19)

Baseball Battles Gordon

The Knights faced GCAA foe Gordon State last week and the 17th-ranked Highlanders showed why they are one of the Nation's top teams. In the opener last Tuesday at home, WGTC fell behind early and eventually lost 12-1.  On Thursday, the series shifted to Barnesville, but the result was similar, this time an 11-1 loss.  The Knights battled in Saturday's doubleheader. In Game 1, WGTC led 3-1, but then watched the Highlanders plate 4 runs in the bottom of the 6th. The Knights responded with a run in the 7th and had the tying run in scoring position but dropped a 5-4 decision.  In the nightcap, the Highlanders built an early 5-0 lead and held on to that margin for the final.  Coach Beau Welborn's club fell to 14-20 overall, 5-13 in GCAA play while Gordon improved to 30-7 and 14-4.

This week the Knights open a GCAA series with East Georgia. The opener will be Tuesday in Swainsboro before the series shifts to Carrollton Friday and Saturday.  Tuesday's single game is set for 3 pm and first pitch Friday is slated for 4 pm.  Saturday's doubleheader will begin at 1 pm.  Home games are played at Central High School.
