The Knights' Round Table (3-11-2019)

Knights Receive GCAA Recognition

The Georgia Collegiate Athletic Association (GCAA) announced its post-season basketball recognitions Saturday and West Georgia Tech is well represented.  Coach Niki Okolovitch was honored as the GCAA Division III Coach of the Year while Juwan Johnson and Kameron Hickey were both named 1st Team All-Region.  More information about these recognitions will be forthcoming later this week.

Softball Opens Home Schedule

Coach Monica Mills stated in the preseason that she expected this year's club to be improved from last year. Currently, the Knights are 7-6 overall with a 3-5 GCAA record. Last season, WGTC finished the year 6-34, 1-27 in conference play.  Coach Mills' prediction has become reality. She had to be especially pleased with her team this week. After dropping a doubleheader to league powerhouse Georgia Military on Thursday, the Knights bounced back on Friday with a doubleheader sweep of GCAA rival Gordon College by 2-1 and 7-6 margins.

This week is a busy one for the Knights.  On Tuesday, WGTC will host GCAA opponent Andrew College for a 2 pm doubleheader. On Thursday, the Knights will step out of conference with a 3 pm doubleheader in Atlanta against Agnes Scott.  On Friday, Abraham Baldwin visits Carrollton for a 2 pm GCAA doubleheader and WGTC will travel to LaGrange on Sunday with a 2 pm start time.

Baseball Wraps Up Series with South Georgia

The week started well for the Knights on the road in Douglas with an 8-5 win over South Georgia.  The Knights came back with 3 runs in both the 7th and 9th innings to pull out its first GCAA win.  However, South Georgia traveled to Carrollton and won Thursday's single game 7-3 and then Friday's doubleheader by 10-2 and 12-0 margins.  The Knights stand at 10-12 overall, 1-4 in GCAA play.

The task doesn't get any easier this week with GCAA powerhouse Georgia Highlands on the schedule.  The Knights will travel for the first game of the series Tuesday at 6 pm. The Chargers will travel to Carrollton for Friday's single game at 6 pm followed by a doubleheader on Saturday beginning a 1 pm.
